How To Clean Up A Really Big Mess

Sometimes we find ourselves facing a big mess. A child's room, a garage or a closet that gives the impression it has recently experienced a particularly violent tornado. As we gaze at the toys, pieces of toys, books, dolls, clothes, sports equipment, trash etc. strewn about the space, we ask ourselves where do we start? That question stops most of us dead in our tracks. Actually, there is a definite place to begin, no matter what kind of mess you have.

Kids Toy Bin

First, get a big trash bag.

Kids Toy Bin

Second begin by picking up only one kind of item. For example in a child's room - begin by picking up all of one kind of toy (doll clothes, action figures, Legos etc.) Put all of that kind of item away where it belongs. If you have no place for it, put it all in one pile, a plastic bin or a big plastic bag. If you find objects damaged beyond repair - throw them away. If you come across trash while collecting any of the items - throw it away.

Move on to the next item and continue until all categories of items are put away or everything is sorted by type. If your space is limited you may have to put your sorted items in the hall, another room or in the case of the garage the driveway. You can also get one of those clear plastic over the door shoe holders and hang it on the door of the room you are working on. You put small items into these pockets and this will help prevent them from getting lost.

If you have no storage space for your sorted items you'll have to create some. Since you have already gone through the cleaning up process it should be easier to do.

This method works for closets, files, garages - really any space that has gotten messy and out of control. If your big mess is strictly files and papers purchase a large pack of inexpensive file folders. You can sort your paperwork into these manila files and store them temporarily in those paper file boxes.

Top 10 Fancy Dress Ideas Party Themes

Fancy dress ideas party themes can determine not only the tone of the party but also how much fun people will have leading up to the night.

Kids Toy Bin

Gone are the days when fancy dress was restricted to children's birthday parties and rowdy hen nights - people all over the country people are discovering the sheer amusement at spending their weekend dressed as a pirate!!

Kids Toy Bin

Whether you choose to showcase your weird and wonderful costumes at your local club/pub or in the relative privacy of a house party - fancy dress is a great way to have a brilliantly different night!

Regardless of how much money you have to spend there are loads of options available for the fancy dress connoisseur! Feeling Flush? Why not splash out on ready made costume with all the trimmings? Watching the pennies? Then put on your best Blue Peter hat and get creative at home. Whatever your budget being dressed up has a great effect on people and is bound to result in an amusing night!

Here's my top 10 favourite themes...

Position 10 - The 'P' party*

This theme is great as it gives people scope to apply creativity, while condoning plagiaristic laziness. Say 'Arrgg matey' and say hello to join the plethora of Pirates, Prostitutes and Pikies. Thankfully you'll be in the semi-safe hands of the reasonably pissed up paramedics and police.

* This idea is transferable to any letter of the alphabet - or why not try asking guests to come as something beginning with the first letter of their name!

Position 9 - Superheroes

Whether it was Superman or He-man, Catwoman or even Supergran, we all had our favourite superheroes as a child - well now's your chance to finally be just like them!! The standard lycra & pants element is bound to turn heads (although not always for the right reasons!!) or why not be a bit different and go as the hero's alter ego?

Position 8 - Tarts & Vicars

The classic fancy dress theme - your chance to be seen in public wearing your shortest skirt and highest heels - teemed with the obligatory fishnets and that's only the guys! For the more reserved amongst us the vicar costume is an easy alternative.

Position 7 - Charity shop night

Have fun and get some good karma whilst you do it! Set a price limit and your guests have to buy their whole outfit (shoes and accessories included) from your local charity shop. The results are always hilarious and no two outfits are ever the same - just keep an eye on the number of guys dressed as women - they love it!!!

Position 6 - Uniforms

Every girl loves a man in uniform!! And I'm sure the other way round is no exception!! From sailors and firemen to nurses and air hostesses this is a great theme for stag and hen nights and is bound to get you lots of attention. Just be careful not to lose the keys to those handcuffs!!

Position 5 - What you want to be when you grow up

Not only is this a great theme with loads of options but you also get to find out what your friends aspired to be when they were kids. There's always a few policemen and nurses - however you bound to see some slightly more unusually career goals like your lawyer friend who actually wanted to be a zoo keeper or your posh sister in law who secretly yearned to be a bin man!!

Position 4 - Films Stars

Always fancied yourself as a bit of a Hollywood Starlet? Think you'd make a good 007 or Lara Croft? Or do you see yourself as more of a Fred Flintstone? The options for this theme are endless and with more films arriving at your local multiplex each week there's no excuse not to come up with a great costume!

Position 3 - Cowboys and Indians

Another classic theme and so easy to do - throw together some denim and a checked shirt - and I bet you ladies have at least one pair of cowboy boots in the cupboard somewhere! Plus you get a chance to play fight with the obligatory toy weapons!

Position 2 - Heaven and Hell

Are you a dirty devil or an innocent angel - or why not combine the two and come as a naughty nun? Whatever you choose this is a great theme - even dressed as an angelic being I'm sure you'll get some cheeky devil's heart racing!

Position 1 - Goodies and Baddies

Whether you go for a famous duo like Austin Powers and Dr Evil or a classic coupling like cops and robbers this is a theme with loads of scope for imagination and a great idea for couples.

We hope this helps if you are struggling to find a theme for your party.

Enjoy,

Angela

11 Neat Ways to Donate, Sell Or Give Away Used Books

Books, like many of our treasured belongings, often simply rot away on our shelves and become clutter because we no longer have a current need for them, but because we loved them, we don't want to just throw them away. But, left unused for long periods of time, the fate of our beloved books is to collect dust, turn yellow, fall apart, and even smell bad. Objects that go unused for years create stagnant or stuck energy in our homes that affect our mood, drain our energy and may even make it harder to function and use your storage shelves easily.

Kids Toy Bin

Is this what you intended when you bought the books? I know parting with books is challenging. It helps if you can focus on the benefits and value of passing them on. Like sharing the insights or entertainment you got out of the book with others.

Kids Toy Bin

By donating or giving away books you no longer need, you get to contribute value to others while also making more room in your own home or office to function with ease. Think of how much shelf space you could reclaim.

Plus, if you donate your books (including books on tape or CD) to a charity and itemize deductions, you can deduct the value of the books on your income tax return. Web-based tools like It's Deductible make it easy to figure out what the books are worth.

Where to Give Your Books Away

Your Local Library - Unfortunately, many libraries don't take book donations anymore. But some do, so it is worth finding out if there is a library near you that will take your books, even if your hometown does not. Note: Libraries often take Books on CD and Books on Tape, Videos, DVDs, and Music CDs and Tapes too.
JustGIVE.org - This site provides a list of places to donate just about anything. Whether you want to donate Books, Furniture, Household Good and Clothing, Computers, Cars, Cell Phones, Pet Supplies, Eyeglasses, your Hair, or even your Organs, you can find a resource here.
Friends of Libraries, USA - This group is currently accepting donations to rebuild libraries affected by hurricanes and more. You can ship books to them. Address: 1420 Walnut St, Suite 450 Philadelphia, PA 19102-4017 Call: 215-790-1674 or 1-800-9FOLUSA folusa.org
Vietnam Veteran's Association - Offers both pick up service and drop off service. There is a limit on the number of books you can donate at one time. Not all areas have pick up service, but some offer a monthly pick up.
Freecyle.org - List ads for free and give books or anything else away. Be careful in screening who you allow to come to your home. For safety, arrange a public meeting place to deliver the books.
BookCrossing.com - This website is a really fun way to share books. You register your book, leave it in a public place, someone else picks it up, notes it on the website, then does the same. You get to track your books travels after you give it way.
Housing Works in NYC - 126 Crosby Street, NYC 10012 (212-334-3324) You can drop off or ship books to them. They work to end homelessness and AIDS in NYC.
Craigslist.org - Free ad listing website lets you give books and anything else away. Be careful. Avoid giving your address to strangers. For safety, arrange a public meeting place to deliver the books.
Bridge to Asia's Textbook and Journal Donation Program - Got old textbooks and professional journals? This group wants college, graduate and professional level teaching and research materials. They accept books, journals and other forms of information both used and new. Visit bridge.org
PaperbackSwap.com - Here you can mail your books in (usually costs .59 per book)and get credits. Then you can use your credits to get books you want.
BooksThroughBars.org - What better way to rehabilitate someone than through education and reading? This program provides books to prisoners. Before sending books, make sure you check the rules on what types of reading material each prison allows.

Also consider FIRSTBOOK.org - They don't take books, but you can donate to help kids in need get their "first books."

BONUS Clutter Flow Tip: Set up a donation bin, just as you would a recycle or trash bin. Collect books and other items you no longer need. Once a week, on the same day as trash day, check if the bag or box is full and donate as needed. I keep a donation back on a hook in my closet for clothing I no longer need. Automate the process any way you can and set up a reminder in your calendar or phone. Once you get in the habit it will feel almost effortless.

Bed Sets Toddler Beds

A Complete Preschool Lesson Plan - Jungle Theme

Hop on the Safari Bus. We are going on a Jungle Tour in the Preschool Classroom. It's going to be so much fun for the children, and I guarantee you are going to enjoy yourself.

Kids Toy Bin

Here are some ideas on how to get your jungle theme lesson plan started and some ideas to keep it going for as long as your preschoolers are interested in the activity.

Kids Toy Bin

Here's how to introduce the theme:

Day 1. Ask the children if they know what the word 'jungle' means. Explain what a jungle is for those who may not know, and have a picture of a jungle so they can associate your description with the picture.

Day 2. Have books* in the library on jungles and animals that live in the jungle. They can be a mix of cartoon type kids books and real-to-life kids books. (Your local library should be able to help you out with finding books.)

Day 3. Find pictures* of jungle animals from magazines, books, the internet, calendars, or anywhere you can find them, laminate them, and post them on the walls around the classroom.

Day 4. Place jungle themed toys on the toy shelf and place a few jungle themed puzzles in the puzzle area

Day 5. Find a CD with jungle themed music and play that throughout playtime after you talk about the jungle.

*If any pictures or books you have, show any sort of tribal people, you could make tribal masks for a creative art activity and the children can wear them in the dramatic play centre.

You can also place some paper towel tubes, pipe cleaners, markers, googly eyes, etc., on the art shelf and see which animals they create.

Here are some examples of animals you can introduce through books and pictures:
Panthers
Snakes
Bears
Monkeys
Zebras
Giraffes
Elephants
Cheetahs
Alligators
Rhinoceros
Birds
Hippopotamus

Feel free to have an open discussion with the children. Talk about the colors of the animals, their teeth, their eyes, which animal does each child like best, etc.

If you want, you can also touch on what the animals eat but make sure you keep it simple. The children at this stage in life don't need to start learning about the words carnivores, herbivores, etc. Just keep things simple like saying, a panther eats meat, a monkey eats fruit, a giraffe eats leave from tall trees, etc.

The children will probably want to know where the animals homes are in the jungle. This information should be easy to find through the books and pictures you have. If not, the library will have books on the individual animals you are talking about which will give you the information you need.

Here are some examples to get you started:

The animals will find homes within their habitat (the jungle) which they make into a home for them and their animal families.

Animals homes in the jungle could be a nest, a den, a burrow, under a rock, in a hollow tree trunk, up high in trees, etc.

You can then talk about which animal might live in a tree, which one would live under a rock, etc.

To incorporate this theme into the different programming areas of the classroom, some examples could be:

Creating a jungle themed dramatic play center:

Make a jungle jeep, safari jeep or car out of a box or, place 4 chairs together with a stand up steering wheel in front of one chair.

Get some safari looking hats.

Children's binoculars.

Pretend cameras.

Post jungle animal pictures on the wall and watch your preschool children go wild over this theme. :)

Here is a sandy sensory idea:

Place some sand in the sensory bin.

Find some small rubber or plastic sand animals* you would find in the jungle. (Snakes, beetles, insects, etc.)

Place these items in the sensory bin and your done.

*I have had great success finding almost everything I need at dollar stores. Search them out, I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

Just be as creative as you can with this theme. The possibilities are endless if you put your mind to it. When you are listening to the jungle music you can incorporate creative movement into this. Ask the children to pick an animal they would like to pretend to be and move to the music like that animal. There is no right or wrong movement, the children will have so much fun.

You could also move this theme into outdoor gross motor play. You could bring some of the dramatic play items outside like the hats, binoculars, cameras etc. Place some stuffed toys here and there around the play yard (make sure they get washed when you bring them in for the day) and go on an outdoor safari hunt.

The children can ride their bikes and go on their own tour, they can go on a "lion/bear hunt," you can run from animals 'scare' you, you can tip toe and walk around animals that are 'sleeping'.

Remember to use your imagination and expand on what the children are doing and saying.

Have a wonderful Jungle Themed Lesson and go wild with adventure.

Cupcake Pinata - Easy Step by Step Instructions

Cupcake themed birthday parties are popular for small children so why not make a cupcake pinata in the colours that match your decorations? Making it is lots of fun and easy to make - the whole family can help.

Kids Toy Bin

Follow my instructions on making a cupcake piñata. It doesn't take long to make, however, you must allow a couple of days for it to dry. I would recommend starting to make the pinata about a week before it's needed. You can decorate the pinata as simply or as creatively as you want.

Kids Toy Bin

The first time I made a pinata, I coated it in about 12 layers of newspaper. The children could not break it. We ended up getting out the golf clubs. I was worried the circular saw would be coming out next! Although you want it strong you only need about 4-5 layers of newspaper to make a very sturdy pinata.

All you need: 2 cups flour 3 cups water Newspaper Colored crepe paper String Balloon Small rubbish bin

I like to use a small rubbish bin as the base of my cupcake. I cover it in plastic wrap so that the papier-mache can easily be taken off when dry (and you don't ruin the rubbish bin!). If you don't have a suitable rubbish bin, you could use a cake tin, or anything that is the size you want. If you don't have anything suitable use cardboard to make the cylinder and use newspaper across the bottom.

Mix the flour and water together until it makes a smooth paste.

Tear the newspaper into long 1 inch wide strips and dip into the flour/water mixture. Carefully place the strips on the base until it is covered. You need to add about 4 layers of paper - you want it strong enough that everyone gets to have at least one turn at hitting it at the party!

Set aside and let dry.

Blow up a large balloon until it fits neatly into the top of the base. Cover the top half of the balloon with newspaper and let dry.

When dry, remove papier-mache from the base and remove plastic wrap, if used. Pop and remove the balloon and tape the balloon to the cupcake base. Use scrunched up paper to form a "cherry" on top.

Make a "U" shaped incision in the top as you will use this later to add candies, toys etc.

Punch 2 small holes in the top near the opening and thread a large piece of string through the two holes.

Paint with different designs and colors, or cover in crepe paper. When I use crepe paper, I like to cut the paper into squares about 2 inches square, scrunch them up and glue to the piñata.

Fill through the flap you left at the top, with candy, toys, or any other fun surprises.

Tie your pinata in the air with the string and have fun!

Plastic is an extremely lightweight and versatile material that can be used for many purposes but particularly for food packaging as it is safe, hygienic, durable, and cheap to produce. The problems arise when we want to dispose of plastic.

In theory, it is possible to recycle just about any kind of plastic but in reality this isn't happening. Despite households producing a large amount of plastic waste every year only around 7% of it is currently being recycled in the UK.

Kids Toy Bin

Plastic that is being recycled is used to make a variety of other products and some of these include:

o Plastic bags and bin liners

o Items for gardening like seed trays, composters and even garden sheds

o Fleeces

o Fillings for duvets and sleeping bags

o Insulation

So what happens to plastic that isn't being recycled?

There is approximately 3 million tonnes of plastic waste each year and more than half of it is packaging. Food packaging in particular tends to have a short life span as the packaging is disposed of as soon as it is opened and unfortunately, most of this will end up in a landfill site. Environmental agency reports estimate that 80% of plastic waste is currently reaching landfill sites and this is a major cause for concern as the space required for land fill sites is increasing.

Producing plastic in the first place has an environmental impact too as it uses a lot of resources and fossil fuels as well as land and water and which also results in waste, although most of the waste from plastic production is reprocessed to make more plastic. Plastic production will often require the use of chemicals to stabilise or colour the plastic and the full impact on our health or the environment is not totally clear. A good example of this is PVC which has been used to make toys and some experts have expressed concern that phthalates might be released if the children put the toys in their mouths.

Another issue surrounding plastic is its degradability. Plastic is non degradable so if it finds its way to a landfill tip no one knows how long it will take to break down because plastic hasn't been around long enough to tell so it could possibly lie there for many hundreds of years.

The ideal solution would be to recycle or re-use the plastic that has already been produced, but how viable is this? Certainly, recycling plastic has its advantages such as:

o Reduced use of non-renewable fossil fuels

o Reduced consumption of energy

o Reduced amount of plastic waste reaching landfill sites

o Reduced carbon emissions into the atmosphere

So why don't we recycle more plastic?

A major issue is that plastics must be sorted according to their type and colour before recycling and this is a complex process. Although some technological devices for sorting plastics are slowly being introduced, sorting is normally done manually by people who are trained to do it.

The main barrier to recycling plastic on the part of the consumer is lack of opportunity to do so although the number of collection points for plastic waste is increasing all the time.

Finally, there is not a great demand for some types of plastic and the cost of recycling plastic can actually be more than the cost of producing new plastic.

New solutions are constantly being sought, including the production of plastic that can degrade naturally.

Biodegradable and photo degradable plastic

Some carrier bags are now being produced that are degradable, in other words, they are supposed to break down or rot. There are two types of degradable plastic, one that breaks down when exposed to sunlight and another that breaks down after a certain period of time. Many large retailers are now issuing degradable plastic bags to their customers, and this may sound like an ideal solution but it brings up new concerns:

o If a photodegradable bag ends up in a landfill site it will not break down as there is no sunlight

o As the material biodegrades, methane can be released into the atmosphere

o The mixture of different types of degradable plastics makes sorting it more complex and therefore harder to recycle

o People who are unaware of the implications may simply throw away degradable bags thinking they will break down and by doing this, increase the litter problem

Dealing with plastic waste in the home

The ideal way to dispose of plastic waste is to find another use for it within the home as much as possible, for example, by using empty plastic water bottles and containers to store other materials or find alternative uses for them and by using plastic carrier bags over again instead of throwing them away.

For plastic products that you can't find another purpose for, you could try to identify where the nearest facilities are for recycling plastic in your area and make full use of them.

The Cockroach and Clutter Control

Clutter control is an essential part of cockroach control. Clutter is the perfect habitat for the cockroach. They love to live in cramped quarters and will take up residence anywhere they can happily eat and breed.

Kids Toy Bin

What Attracts the Cockroach to Your Home?

Kids Toy Bin

It is the food in your home that attracts this household pest. Like any living being they need food and water to survive, so any building where food is prepared and stored will be an attractive living area. The cockroach can easily live off the food from unwashed dishes, bits of pet food on the floor and even the glue on postage stamps or book bindings.

One cockroach will lead to many. With an ongoing food and water supply there is no reason for them to leave your domicile. They will continue to live and breed in your home as long as conditions are favourable.

Health Problems Associated with Cockroach Infestations

Once the cockroach come into your home you have more than just an unsightly pest. For more than two decades it has been recognized that cockroach parts are highly allergenic.

There is an established connection between an infestation and the development of asthma in children. Children are more vulnerable because they crawl around on the floor and come into contact with the feces, larvae, eggs and other cockroach parts that are embedded in the carpet, baseboards, and the household dust that has settled there.

The connection to allergy induced asthma is clear:

60% of people with asthma test positive to cockroach allergens. asthmatic children who are allergic to cockroaches are 3 times more likely to be hospitalized for asthma if they have significant exposure to large cockroach populations in their environment (National Cooperative Inner City Asthma Study, 1997) even if other allergies such as dust mites are present it is the level of cockroach allergens in the environment that is most closely associated with the severity of the asthma in children.

Additionally these pests carry various types of bacteria in their gastrointestinal system which are deposited all over your house whenever they defecate. Bacteria isolated from cockroach droppings include salmonella. Food poisoning, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal illness in human are associated with infestations.

Clutter Control for Cockroach Control

Pest management experts call the living areas for pests "harborages". While the cockroaches will come out at night when you are asleep they will seek out dark places to hide during the day and particularly like to be almost "coccooned" when they are resting. In other words they like to have all surfaces of their body touching something. This makes them seek out very, very small cracks and crevices where they can hunker down undisturbed for their daytime sleep.

The recommended strategies for cockroach control includes clearing clutter and useless debris. Stacks of newspapers, cardboard boxes, and piles of clothing are ideal harborages.

Clutter control strategies that help to reduce cockroach harborages include:

Use plastic storage bins (not cardboard) if you must store items like seasonal clothing and make sure the lid fits tightly and the storage bin is not cracked. Do not store newspapers in your home, take them directly to an outdoor recycle bin Do not leave out pet food dishes with food and water. Feed your pet at a regular time, then take the dish and wash it after your pet has eaten. Do not store unused plastic bags under the kitchen sink. They make a perfect cockroach coccoon. Discard unused corrugated cardboard immediately. The crevices in corrugated cardboard are ideal harborages for the cockroach and they can live off the organic matter of the box so they will breed prolifically in cardboard boxes.

Clearing clutter also means clearing the exterior clutter from around the house. Things like firewood, recycle boxes, and garbage cans can attract roaches, and provide ideal harborages. Once the cockroach has taken up residence outside your home moving inside through tiny cracks and crevices around plumbing and electrical conduits is an easy task.

Another way that this pest gets into your home is by hitch hiking on something else. If your shopping habits include frequenting flea markets, auctions, or purchasing goods by the "lot" or "by the pound" make sure that these items are unpacked and carefully scrutinized for cockroach carcasses and egg casings before you bring them into your home. Kill any live eggs that may be present by washing used clothing before it goes into your closet.

If you build clutter the cockroach will come and it will stay. Clutter control is not just a mantra for organized living. It is also a strategy for health promotion.

34 Fun School Carnival Game Ideas

1. The Beauty Salon was a popular booth at our Fall Carnival. The boys and girls loved getting their hair colored, blue, green, pink!

Kids Toy Bin

2. Karaoke was also very popular this year!

Kids Toy Bin

3. About three years ago, our room moms rented an electonic bull. (I can't think of the right name!) The line never ended! The kids and adults loved it!

4. My sons' school has a Kissing Booth. They didn't get actual kisses, but they did give you a Hershey's Kiss instead. They also have a lips stamp, and they stamp your face with it! And you see TONS of kids running around their carnival with several kisses! Very cute!

5. We played "Bingo for Books" in the media center.

6. Snack Walk (like a cake walk but kids picked out bags of chips, a box of Little Debbies, bag of cookies, 2 liter bottle of soda, etc

7. We also auctioned off Janitor-, Principal- and Librarian- for-a-day. Those were very popular. (Janitor brought in the most!)

8. We have done Super Twister with dots painted on a large piece of tarp that got taped to the floor with everyone trying to touch the correct color with the correct body part. Ours is big enough that 30+ kids can play at a time.

9. A popular game at our school's carnival was the football toss. Rings were hung from the ceiling (beginning with rings the size of a hula-hoop) and you would try to throw a football through a ring. The smaller the ring, the higher the points.

10. Hit the Teacher With a Wet Sponge. Hugely popular, even with the parents.

11. Bubble-gum Blowing Contest: Popular because gum's usually a no-no.

12. Advanced Spelling Bee- Allowed students to take steps toward prize board if correct; end of the line if missed.

13. Dress up the Teacher: Hit garage sales and the Good Will for outrageous items to dress a teacher. Tie this in with problem solving/ academics standardized test review...use a digital camera to photo results as keep sake.

14. A few years back we had a carnival and one big seller was the "Loonie " Jars (here in Canada we call our dollar a Loonie. ) We asked families to donate jars filled with items - such as packs of gum, small toys, marbles, pencils, - you name it, people filled them. We had over 400 donated. Then people drew a number from a basket and that was the jar they got.

15. We just had our carnival on Thursday and Friday, and I teach third grade. This year we did the toy walk (played just like the cake walk). We used small inexpensive toys (.00 limit) the kids brought in and also got some happy meal toys donated from McDonald's. Another one we did was the Wii game. The kids loved it!!!

16. We do a "Great Pumpkin Obstacle Race" where the student dresses up like a great pumpkin (we use my orange hunting coat, hat, and gloves) then they go through tires, over hay bales, and weave through pumpkins. The kids love it!

17. Last year at our fall festival we had a duck race. You set up a small pool and get the little bath ducks. You also need squirt guns. The students "race" their ducks using the spray from the squirt guns to make them go. It was really fun!

18. We had a carnival many years ago and the booth that was the biggest hit, was the engraving booth. We ordered necklaces from Oriental Trading and had one of those hand held engraving machines and wrote the kids names on them. It was quick and easy.

19. A parent built a Plinko board that travels from grade to grade with his son - it's the most popular item at the fair. We have a stage in our gym so kids stand on the stage to drop the Plinko disks.

20. The Fortune Teller booth is our most popular one.

21. Mystery boxes- boxes with holes that the kids put their hands into- had peeled grapes, cold spaghetti, jello with fruit. We gave each one a scary name.

22. Guess the weight of a big pumpkin.

23. We sold plastic gloves filled with popcorn. Each "hand" had a spider ring on the finger.

24. Musical Chairs with Stuffed Animals. Before the carnival, collect stuffed animals (kids can donate these by the arm loads). Put them in a pile in the center of the room. Place chairs in a circle around the stuffed animals. put numbers under the chairs. Play music for a minute. Have kids sit. Draw a number. Winner picks a stuffed animal.

25. What about sand art? The kids love it! You can get supplies on line, such as small plastic bottles and bracelets. Use salt dyed with food coloring for the sand.

26. Another idea is to make a box maze in your classroom. It could be a crawl through. Maybe kids could solve a puzzle along the way.

27. Guessing contests are fun. Decorate clear glass jars and fill with what ever. Lollipops, M&M's, individual wrapped candies, pretzels, dry beans might add a soup making recipe, so that it shows on the outside of the jar. Here again have different people bring a decorated jar full of something and have them count and put on a folded paper on the underside of the jar lid the number of items in the jar. Only one prize per winner and of coarse family members can't win their jar. The more jars the more winners. Any size jar will work - jelly jars, gallon jars, miracle whip jars and etc. Decorating is fun. Example one person completely covered the jar with wrapping paper and put 1 bag of candy in the jar, so the correct guess was one. Stick on stickers. Make a puff top on the lid. Glue on lace. Tape a pattern on the inside of the jar and use enamel paint and paint the design on the outside of the jar and maybe outline with permanent fabric paint. The outline isn't necessary, but adds an extra nice touch. Don't forget to remove your pattern when complete.

28. Fluky Ball: Set up an easel with a bucket below. Child must bounce a ball off the easel into the bucket to win.

29. Tin Pan Alley: child rolls a ball down a ramp. At the bottom there is a box with 2 muffin tins painted with 3 different colors. The child rolls 3 balls. If 2 colors match, you win.

30. A great carnival idea is do offer a DINO DIG! Take a baby swimming pool, fill it with sand and small plastic dinosaurs (oriental trading has them cheap) give the kids a small shovel to dig for their dino. We also do digging for diamonds! Girls love finding little rings and such in the sand.

31. Pumpkin Ring Toss. We get donations from the local nurseries for pumpkins, hay bales, corn stalks, gourds, etc. We take about ten of the larger stemed pumpkins and use them as the targets for the rong toss. I found wooden hoops at the local fabric store.

32. Gourd Bowling. I purchased a set of those plastic children pins and then used some of the gourds from the nurseries. The gourds roll funny so it makes it more fun.

33. Ping-Pong Ball Toss. We purchased ten of the plastic pumpkin trick-or-treat containers that the kids use and had them placed as the target. I had a half dozen or so orange ping-pong balls that the kids have to toss in.

34. One of my favorite games is "Chicken Chucking". Get a few rubber chickens and set up an area that people can throw them into a pen (rubber maid bin) I place mine about 30 feet away and at 40 feet away. Its hilarious watching everyone throw it. When I did it at my church I found some real cute rubber chicken key chains to give away to the people that made it into the 40 feet away pen.

Baby Play Yard

Create Your Own Special Name

Every year, thousands upon thousands of new babies are born. The joyous moment makes parents world-wide wide eyed, cry, laugh, hug and kiss. For many new parents, however, the next step, sometimes a difficult step, is to choose that cute baby name that gives a newborn their identity for the rest of their life.

Kids Toy Bin

Some parents may have already chosen suitable baby girl names or baby boy names from a list that they have prepared beforehand, or have a name in mind based on the name of a special relative, mother, father, grandparent, or even a life long friend.

Kids Toy Bin

While there is nothing wrong with choosing a baby name that is more common like Bill, Bob or Jane or Betty, often parents want such a unique baby name that it is more unlikely to be heard that frequently. There are hundreds of ways to find these cute and unique baby names. You can search the internet for sites that list a host of names based on a variety of special or significant meaning, for example, Christian names, famous names or such. Or, you can go to your local book store and purchase a number of books with thousands of names.

When you want your bundle of joy to grow up knowing they are truly unique and special, you can also invent or create your own baby names. Once you have created this special name, it will be very easy to explain to your child in later years how you chose their name. For example, you can sit down with a blank sheet of paper, and write down all the names you like or have found. Then, you can start to combine names by breaking them into syllables and combine different syllables until you have found the right combination.

Choosing middle names for your new baby girl or boy can be accomplished in the same way. A special way I've found that works is to take the first and second name of the baby's parents. You can then combine these names by using the syllable method, or you can reverse the names to come up with your own. For example, Robert and Ann can be combined to give you Roban, or Tanya and Robert can be combined to give you Robtan.

To develop your own cute and unique baby name may be one of the most wonderful gifts you can give to your child. This special name will always make them feel that they are a one of a kind individual, and will help give them the self-confidence to create their own special baby names for their own children in the future.

Why not take a few minutes with your spouse and create your own special name - you'll always know each time you call them how special they are to you.
